Overview
Most animal shelters have their kennels overfilled while remaining understaffed.
Having volunteered at my local animal shelter, I considered simplifying Pet Network's volunteer process by removing the need for a third-party form.
Goal
The main focus is to increase the number of completed applications, potentially leading to more support for the shelter and its furry residents.

User
Research
After interviewing 14 participants, it was evident that although people were enthusiastic about supporting organizations with shared values, they struggled with lack of time.
Most applicants will drop off from completing their forms if the process takes too long.
User Flow
Since time was the biggest setback when it came to completing this process, I aimed to simplify the volunteer process by reducing the number of steps.
This meant eliminating the need to create a new account on a third-party site, which seemed unnecessary and time-consuming for unofficial volunteers.

Site Map
I condensed the sitemap to enhance the user experience and make it easier for visitors to access information quickly.

The aim was to eliminate confusion by allowing users to focus on what matters most: supporting the organization and its mission.

Usability Testing
Since users were overwhelmed with the immediate call-to-action buttons in the original design, I created call-to-action cards below the mission statement to give more information about the organization before prompting them to make a decision.
A/B Testing
I tested the scheduling section of the form and which format users preferred. The results were close! Although ticking a checkbox for generalized times would be quicker, users preferred the freedom to specify their availability.

Style Guide
I developed a comprehensive style guide and mindfully selected colors that aligned with the organization's values and mission.
Blue: representing a sense of community, was used to promote a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. Red: symbolizing passion and energy to convey the organization's dedication to its cause.
